چکیده

Economic theory emphasizes that pursuing risk sharing allows to exploit benefits from comparative advantages and economies of scale. Unlike previous works we test (and reject) the assumption of parameter homogeneity across geographical units in measuring risk sharing. The estimated regional-specific index of risk sharing is then used as a covariate in a model of industrial specialization for the EU15 regions. By estimating a number of nonparametric additive spatial autocovariance models, allowing for nonlinearities and spatial dependence, we show that industrial specialization is positively affected by risk sharing measures even when we control for other relevant regressors.

A Perfect Specialization Model for Gravity Equation in Bilateral Trade based on Production Structure

Although initially originated as a totally empirical relationship to explain the volume of trade between two partners, gravity equation has been the focus of several theoretic models that try to explain it. Specialization models are of great importance in providing a solid theoretic ground for gravity equation in bilateral trade. Some research papers try to improve specialization models by addi...

Effects of Organizational Design Dimensions on Inter-unit Knowledge sharing

The literature on knowledge sharing is extensive but organization design received little attention in this literature. A few useful exceptions are Birkinshaw e.a. (2002), Hansen (2002) and Tsai (2002). However, these attempts are yet too limited to fully understand the relationship between organization design choices and knowledge sharing. To contribute in filling this gap, we look at the funda...

Who Wants Political Integration? Evidence from the Swedish EU-Membership Referendum

The regional voting pattern of the Swedish EU-membership referendum is analyzed to determine voters’ preferences over two fiscal regimes: an autonomous Sweden, or Sweden as part of the EU. A major difference between these regimes is that autonomy gives greater national discretion to handle risk-sharing and redistribution between regions. I find that inhabitants of rich and stable regions, with ...
